Librarian dashboard

Over the past decades, the public library has been subject to change. In general, the library has become less popular, especially amongst younger people. The leaders of the public library network West-Brabant acknowledge this phenomenon as well.

But they see possibilities for positive change. They want to reform the meaning of a library and the role of a librarian so they can adapt to the present. Many people are motivated to come up with new initiatives and ideas to shape this shift towards a more modern library. But they notice that the goals of librarians are not aligned within the organization. A lack of shared understanding and aligned goals slows down the progress of the innovation efforts.

Within this project, the focus was on understanding the meaning of innovation within the organization, and supporting it through design. Thorough research and interviews led us to understand the dynamics of the organization, which are addressed by our design. The final result was a digital dashboard design which enables librarians to gain knowledge, see innovation projects and engage through interaction between the different locations. The innovation leaders of the West-Brabant were delighted to see their concerns be directly translated into a design and said that they were eager to gather the funds to realize the design into their libraries.
